This self-applying updater application contains the 5.51 (Mac OS 8.6 fix) patch which enables users of the 5.506 version of the FirstClass® client for Mac™ OS to update it to help workaround a Mac OS 8.6 issue which causes the client to crash on login. This updater is a preliminary fix to this issue, and will be incorporated in a full client release at some point in the future. This updater is supplied as is and SoftArc Inc makes no additional warranty to its fitness beyond that presented in the standard FirstClass Software License Agreement and Limited Warranty included with every FirstClass product.
These files are produced here for your downloading in accordance with the license agreement distributed with your original FirstClass® media. Any use of this software other than described on this license agreement consitutes fraud.
** Important ** This updater can only be applied to the released 5.506 versions of the FirstClass® client for Mac™ OS. It cannot be used against any previous release versions or any beta versions of the product.
You only need to apply this update if you are going to be running the FirstClass® client on Mac OS 8.6.
How to Apply the Patch
1. Shutdown your current FirstClass® client 5.506 application.
2. Disable any virus protection software you have installed on your Macintosh, then restart it. This is necessary as the self-applying updating process used may cause the update to fail if virus protection software is enabled.
3. Double-click the FCC 5.51 patch (Mac OS 8.6 fix) updater application.
4. Read the 'About this patch ...' information supplied and then press the Patch button.
5. You will be prompted where the current 5.506 version of the FirstClass® client application is. This will usually be found in the FirstClass® Client folder on your hard-disk.
6. Once you have identified where the current 5.506 version of the FirstClass® client application is, highlight it by clicking on it once. Once this is done, press the Patch button.
7. A progress bar will appear as the patch is applied.
8. Once the patching process is over you will be told if it has been successful or not. If problems were encountered, please contact SoftArc's Technical Support department for assistance (see the document describing SoftArc Technical Support policies distributed with the product). If the patch was applied successfully, the 5.506 version will have been left on your hard-disk and the updated version will have been created and named appropriately e.g. FirstClass®.
9. Restart your Macintosh (after re-enabling any virus protection software you have installed) and then start the updated version of the FirstClass® client.
